How do you spel Russel??

Nice looking knife but whoever had the tang stamp made couldn't spell. Eric

Eric,

I think I see a very faint second "L" on that tang stamp. If you can enlarge the picture see if you can spot it.

a few simple questions. is the name on that stamp referring to j. russell case who was actually into the selling of case bros knives before they hit disaster with a couple of fires almost 100 yrs ago? could it be that he started selling his own knives? and what do the letters g. r. w. mean?
maybe someone here can help me out and maybe others too... ::tu::

I find it odd that both blades either have a real light or no second L to them. Possibly a worn or broken stamp. The rest of it looked good to me. Eric

Notice that the tang in the 10th pic; the second L is clearly visible on the other blade.
It isn't uncommon for a tang stamp to wear or the stamp to strike harder on one side.
I have seen numerous examples.
