All About Pocket Knives

Howdy all!

Any info on this knife? I just picked this beauty up last week and I can't find any info on it at all.

Clip blade is etched:
American Pocket Knives (in the shield in the center)
Finest Texas Trapper (sides of the shield)
Carbon Steel (below shield)

Spey blade also has the same tang stamp and no other markings.

But, wouldn't being marked "Carbon Steel" mean it is more likely 1095?

The tang stamp would suggest it was made 1946-1948 but the knife doesn't look that old.

Got to agree with Jerry. I would think that at that age, the carbon steel blades would at least show some "spider-webbing"

I got to say though, it's one fine looking knife. I wouldn't kick it out of my pile and I don't even like trappers.

I agree. I've never cared for trappers either, but this knife was sent to me accidently in place of another knife I had purchased off of another board. When the seller offered to sell me this one as well (and at a great price), I just had to keep it... I'm sure you know how that is...

I agree with you too Jerry that is a modern made knife but, doesn't that tang stamp indicate 1932-1955? It doesn't have the word Stainless with the crown or the word Steel beside the crown. Or at least I can't see them. If IRC Steve said something in another Queen knife blade steel post about Queen not using D-2 Tool steel until sometime in the early 2000's and if a blade is D-2 Tool steel it will always be marked as that. I could be wrong, it's already happened 3 times today (just ask my wife). My recaller just ain't what it used to be.

A beauty she is. I reall like the Queens and that yellow bone is really pretty.

That's a sweeetttt Trapper you have there Markstar. I'm kinda like Jerry about being burnt out on seeing so many Trappers, especially Case trappers in ever color known to man. But your Trapper has an appeal to it that I really like. The carbon steel blades doesn't hurt me liking it one bit either. I prefer carbon steel to 420 HC stainless steel (or Case's Tru-Sharp stainless) myself. Your knife kinda reminds me of a Moore Maker brand Trapper with the yellow handles. It looks to be a quality made knife for sure.

These were a SFO ordered by a fella named Mark Salter, iirc, from down in the Carolinas.
And yes, they were 1095. Some were etched and some weren't.
