All About Pocket Knives

Hi all, I just started collecting knifes and i came across this one that has no brand name on it. It's in pretty bad shape. Could someone tell me what kind of knife it is? The only markings it has on it are "spiral punch", and made in the USA. Any info would be great. thanks in advance.[/img]

Can NOT help much but IMO.
Tang stamped MADELIN USA, and the other blade is PUNCH.

That punch looks like a leather punch to make holes in a belt ??

I also think the owner took good care of her and USED her often, but he over sharpened her many times. Perhaps the steel was to weak for what he did.

While I don't know the answer to your question, I am sure there will be someone along soon with the answer. I have seen other knives with the spiral punch on them, but I can't remember who patented it or who produced knives with the spiral punch.

I have a punch on a Baker Hamilton Pacific knife, that is pretty much the same, minus the stamp on it.

I really like that spiral punch...

I read someplace (maybe in the front of Goin's last book) that Camillus held the patent on that type of punch at one time.
Anyway, I see it on more of their older made knives than any.

NYKC put a spiral punch on some of its early Official Scout knives (BS1, IIRC), but it was stamped with the pattern number only and was a little different in design.

I have a knife like that made by Schrade, but it has jigged bone handles. I have it in my Counterfeit Collection because I was not sure about it. I will compare and post an image if so.

Sure looks like a Camillus model 64 (old number, not the present 64 which is a canoe). Remember, Camillus has long been known as 'knifemaker to the knifemakers' and it's very plausible that this is a knife Camilllus made for someone else.

Yeah I think from what iv'e seen in my book that the old camillus 64 is a strong possibillity. I wouldn't rule out the old winchester though. From what iv'e seen several companies used a variation of that shield. The camillus and the winchester shields look the closest to me. Welcome i'm new too. I luv it here.

Could anyone guess the value of this? I've been carrying and using this knife. It already looks well used.

The spiral punch was a Camillus thing. I don't know Winchester knives all that well, but I don't think they made one. Here is a scan from some old camillus paperwork. I think the knife is a Camillus contract made item.

Value? Not much, except to guys like us. The pretty cell adds some. I've been looking for some decent 64s to put in an old 1/2 dozen '64' box, and they dont sell high.

In the link I posted earlier in this thread, CAMCO states that Camillus sold Spiral punches to others, and made knives marked as Keen Kutter on contract.

Well, the most interesting knives are certainly those with a mystery about them. At least this particular knife brought us a fine new member.

I have a few old Keen Kutters with that spiral punch.

Square bolsters. Small handle pins. Hmmmm
