All About Pocket Knives

Here's my Dog's head folding hunter. I'm not sure how old it is but I think it's from the Kabar Knife Collectors club. Maybe somebody here can let me know?

Can't tell you a thing about that knife except it is a beauty!! And since it's probably rated NIB it will never know how it feels to dress a deer. Treefarmer

I grew up in WNY where the deer can weigh up to 250lbs, some more. Now I live in Florida near Tampa and all I need to dress a Deer here is a pair of poultry sheers

Along that same thought Wazo013, We had invited a dear, elderly couple for Thanksgiving dinner some years ago. As deer season opens on Thanksgiving Day in the Florida panhandle, I had killed a small 6 pt. buck early in the day and had him hanging in the oak tree by my shop, when they came for dinner. The lady was born and raised in upstate NY and just had to go out and see Bambi hangin' in the tree. After she came back in, she had a serious look on her face and exclaimed, "You killed a baby!" Then with a big smile on her face, she explained the size of the deer that her family used to take on their farm many years ago. Treefarmer

Yes, it's one of two Ka-bar Collector Club knives that were issued as a serialized set in 1977. I've read that there were 1100 sets issued. Both knives are hunter patterns and have sambar stag handles. The other knife in the set is a single blade hunter. Guess you'll have to find that one to complete your set.

on edit: Just noticed the X11/77 stamp, which apparently means it's a 1978 knife and not part of the two-knife collector set.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple more Dogshead patterns that I'll post this weekend. I'd like to know more about them as well.

She's not kidding. I worked in a butcher shop that processed deer during hunting season. I used to see 1 or 2 hundred whitetail per year. It was great subway money
