All About Pocket Knives

Got this 3 3/4" Catt. off Tim (basser) in a Thursday night auction.
Been in my pocket since. the blade has already been re-profiled
and is right at 1/4" short.

It needs some more work to give it a better point. Obviously I
want to keep as much length and width as possible. Just needs
more of a point, after using it for a month or so, to make it
preform better.

Where would you start?
Bring the clip down some?
Grind the edge up a little?
Lengthen the radius?
All the above?

I know whatever I take off, I can't put back....

Your suggestions PLEASE!

Depends on how it sits in the blade well. If it's on the verge of "peeking" you won't want to bring it up from the blade. In that case you would want to bring it down from the spine (top of the blade). If you have room, it's better to bring it up from the sharp edge and save as much of the swedge as you can. (I guess you could take a little off the kick to correct and take away any slight peek. Don't have any experience so don't know what that does to the snap.)

The end of the cutting edge is a good 1/16"+ below the liners.
Got plenty of nail pull above the pen blade also, so the kick can be lowered too.

I've noticed from the first pic I posted that I can go ahead and file the swedge back
onto the end of the somewhat bull nosed tip. That will help a lot - right off the bat!

I'll hold up to see if more tips come in before touching ANYTHING!!!

A Wharncliffe blade is always very useful.

If you have a grinder, use the shape of the wheel to follow the top curve where the swedge is. That will bring it back to a nice point and like you say, you can file the swedge back onto it. Personally I use my belt grinder to put the swedge back in, but without a proper belt grinder (not belt sander) and lots of practice, the file would be your best bet. Just remember to stop before you start to shorten the blade anymore. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Yep, the sweep on the cutting edge looks about right, the top recurve has a humpus toward the tip. I'd clean it up from the top and rework the swedge. JMHO
