All About Pocket Knives

Imperial/Schrade made huge numbers of tableware through the years. Its a side of the cutlery business greatly overlooked by collectors (me included). I've added a section to my web page where I put up as many of the tableware flyers as I could find.

Actually under Schrade Walden . Schrade made dining cutlery it is often over looked and fairly difficult to find . They are from the fortys and fiftys some handled in plastic some in cell some in stainless. The stainless were in serrated and regular. I included a pic of both and a set sold with a wood holder. The handles of the stainless were weighted I was originally told with sand however recently I was informed that a putty type filler was used. Interestingly the imperial Schrade connection was around for quite a while before the name change ( actually since Baer combined everything in the fortys ). Knowing that explains another bit of info I came across these ( at least the stainless ) were made in RI at the imperial plant. I believe the early cell were made ( at least partially in Walden ). These are fairly old ( about my age ) so the dust on them and me is antique as well ( so I did not dust them all before taking the pics ). At least some of the plastic handled ones are cell. I know because I have a set that started to go bad years ago so instead of throwing it out I put it in a food saver bag and vacuumed it. over the years I could watch the process and the bag slowly filling with acetelene gas which is given off as the cell breaks down the bag is slowly filling however instead of the blades rusting and corroding they are still shiny bright since they are stainless. This shows how boring and worthless my life has become who else sits around and waits for cell to break down and stainless steel to rust. That is worse than watching paint dry. Last night I was going through some Schrade fliers that you sent me and
I ran across a Schrade flier that showed a French made kitchen knife. That was the first I ever knew of a Schrade being made in France.

Larry, if you don't have a copy of the flier showing the French made knife I will scan it and send it to you if you wish.

I've noted a couple of knives lately, same pattern, with the "United States Senate" blade etch. One was an Ulster five inch fishing knife on ebay (I didn't win it, neither did a friend of mine who was bidding on it-- but the issue is not settled yet), and the other is a Camillus model 31 fishing knife, also of five inches, which is in my collection.

Three questions for you guys.

1) why the hell is my Senator not sending me these free?
2) do any of you have any knives with blades so etched?
3) who did authorize the order, who made the order (at least twice), in
short, what is the story behind them?

In any event, I'll get Tom Williams involved and see what he can find out from the Camillus end of things.

I watched the bidding on that knife, and have contacted the winner about it. He has not received it yet, but is willing to talk about it.
