All About Pocket Knives

This thread will hopefully collect a list of the various companies that Schrade made knives for. Here are some well known brands in recognizable patterns, and I'm hoping we can come up with some more obscure examples. Please dig into your collections and print, and find out who had Schrade make knives for them!!
The whittler in pic2 is stamped Schrade, but etched Craftsman. The rest have branded tangs, top to bottom, 1) Shapleigh, Primble, 2)Schrade(Craftsman), KeenKutter and 3) Shapleigh, KeenKutter.
The pics came up in mixed order; oh well, we are a smart bunch and can figure it out! They are numbered!

Here is a 136 stamped schrade walden, etched Craftsman professional pruner. Some goof layed it flat on a rock and scuffed the blade, up but the etch is still there.

How about HIGH CARBON STEEL---I had a trapper that was etched craftsman with the schrade peech seed bone--thx Mark

I guesss I'd better add these. The first is ea42's Schrade.

The second two are C.F.Wolfertz.

Nice post Fran! Those EOs are great, and the A.Field & Co. is in remarkable condition.

In my first post, I suspect the last pic, a congress pen, is more likely a Camillus production; live and learn !
Seems Schrade made a lot of knives for Shapleigh D-E.

These two Dascos compare closely with Schrades, and are likely products of Schrade Cut Co.

Johnnie I haven't seen a patent number for those, but they are pretty consistent through the Schrade Cut Co (and clones) line-up. Very nicely machined.

upnorth, that Scrade Holyoke Belt Co. HJ is very nice. I love the way it looks. That knife is from an era when American knife companies really made great knifes of quality.

This top knife appeared in the 1934 Schrade Catalog Supplement. It appears it was also made as a Shapleigh D-E. The Schrade is nearly full, but the D-E is down some; still a nice rare model. These have a seal cap, and are 4" long. The Schrade pattern number is 2643 3/4. The Shapleigh number is B200.

Both beauties Charlie. A very interesting pattern, does it have a name ?

Schrade called it a Balloon pattern in the 1934 catalog, but that doesn't seem to relate to pattern names we currently use.
LT called it a big Doctor's knife. I guess because of the seal cap.
It's a swell center jack, with a rounded cross section. The neat thing is, the jigging wraps around the knife! I wonder how they did that??
Can you think of a better name Fran? Anyone?

LT has been in this game much longer than me, but blades, size, and swell center don't relate to my concept of a Doctor's pattern. Hawkbills had seal caps too.

I wouldn't presume to suggest a name other than that given by the manufacturer, but large balloon jack with seal cap might be a more informative description.

shoot, i would like to call em ....mine!

I was reorganizing a drawer, trying to find a Wolfertz knife I've been looking for for . . .a long time !
Anyway, I thought I'd make new wall paper for my computer screen out of these Shapleigh D-Es, and realized that almost all of them show Schrade's influence/DNA.
Some are repeats, but they look nice together. The D-E shield is pretty classy IMO, worthy of a top line production knife!
(The waterfall handles look nice in person, but awful in the scan!!)

Instead of going to my P.O. box, this knife suffered the long arduous trip through Canada customs, and was crammed through my mail slot this morning. Took a week and a half longer than straight U.S. mail, but here it is, unharmed. No doubt Schrade made, 4" in length, it's one of those lanky, slim stockman knives, dressed up with knurling at the liners, and mint except for some blade rubs.

Gary, the bone doesn't wrap around the backspring, but it has a nice oval cross section, fat in the center of the handle, and slim at the edges.
The bone for the handles on most knives starts as a fairly flat piece of jigged bone. This one must have started as almost a half cylinder or third of a cylinder. The jigging goes right around almost to the liners.
