I have come across a merchandiser #470 which contains 40 knives. I cannot find any info on what this might be worth. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Welcome to AAPK.

Is the display portion completely stocked? Can you provide a good clear picture? Any idea what age the knives are? Yeah, yeah, I know, a lot of questions but the folks that know these kinds of things will have a hard time helping you with just the display number.

It appears to be early 1970'S. It came out of an old General Store. It does have all 40 knives.

That's a beauty. Be patient, someone who can give you a guesstimate on it's value will be along.

I found this in the Camillus 1976 Price List. The #470 was also in the 1973 price list but not in the 1979 price list so it had been discontinued by '79.

The inflation calculator says $1285 in 1976 translates to $5182 in today's dollars but I wouldn't get too excited. Someone may disagree with me but I feel fairly certain you're not going to get anywhere near $5K out of it. ::shrug:: Hey, what do I know? Ask anyone and they'll tell you I'm a guesser and usually a bad one.

Click on the picture (some times twice) to blow it up to full size.

I have to agree with John. At $30-#40 per knife (not even including the display cabinet) that's a good price. If pieced out, most of the knives in that display would bring that and then some. Just my opinion.

Now it comes down to do you really want it $1200 - $1500 worth. ::hmm::

Thanks so much for all your help. This came out of an old general store and a friend of mine bought it, just because. Now he is wanting to sell it and that is his asking price. I just needed some advice and justification (ha, my wife is really going to love me for this one!!!) Again, thanks so much for Jerry and John's quick responses!!!
