All About Pocket Knives

Hey Guys, the Rendezvous starts on the 19th and ends on Saturday the 21st. I'll be there on Saturday with my family.
If you guys get the chance and you like these knives, come check out the factory and really see what it's like. It's well worth the trip and it will be almost impossible to leave without a knife or two. Great people, awesome products and just a great time.

I had a great time and a few knives followed me home too, imagine that.

I have lots to share, mostly stories as it was tough to get pics in the factory. Lots of people and not easy shooting, but I'll get pics up ASAP.

Okay guys, unfortunately do to the settings, it was really tough to get any decent pics. Lots of people in and out and glass everywhere, so I had a hard time getting real clear shots.
Also, I did a lot of talking and had a hard time focusing on pics.

I got caught up in some things around the house, so I really haven't gotten a chance to sit down and do a write up, but I'll work on it first thing tomorrow.

Okay Guys, after another great trip to GEC and another awesome tour, I have decided that this is my favorite knife company. As if that wasn't obvious enough already.
I enjoyed speaking to Mr. Howard about his company and his plans for the future and I can tell you from our conversation, it's going to be an awesome time keeping up with them. More SS will be coming out soon, so stay tuned for that guys.

I've learned from talking with Bill and seeing the shop first hand, that it's not really easy for them to bring out new patterns constantly, like we would love to see. Right now they focus on bringing out a new pattern, then adding different blade combinations as time goes on. With a total of 21 employed it's amazing to think that only a handful of people make all these wonderful knives. I think that we have to remember, that as big and as well known as GEC has become online, they are still a fairly small company, but I think that allows Mr. Howard to focus on the knives that come through the company.

I asked Mr. Howard what his favorite pattern was, and of course, it's "the next one". So bringing out a new knife is as exciting for them as it is for the collectors here online. Seeing the place and meeting the people that work here really opens the eyes as to what it takes and to how big it is for everything to come to completion. It's hard to imagine, but lots of people in the little town of Titusville still know nothing of Great Eastern Cutlery. Hard to imagine, I know.

We spoke briefly about Mr. Howard's time at Queen and the things that jump started his ideas as to starting his own company. His drive for better is no less American than his knives and it's refreshing to see in today's world, but today's world doesn't seem to really take affect on the company. It's almost as though you have taken a step back in time when you enter the door. Everyone has friendly smile or a firm handshake to offer, they are proud of what they do and they are more than willing to talk about their processes.

Seeing Christine Tucker is always awesome, she is just a great person with a wonderful personality. She really adds to the company and their overall feeling of "down home". She is good people.
This time I also got to meet her Husband, (My mind slips and I have forgotten his name, but I will add it when I remember". He was a great guy and really easy to talk with. I got to see his EDC and I'll tell you, this man has never heard the term, "safe queen". He was carrying a Tidioute conductor, I believe that at one time the scales may have been natural white bone, but they were more of a hydraulic fluid greenish color, not to mention the dark cast of various other oils. As a trucker though, he tests these knives. He said, "when your pressed for time, you can't always stop and grab a screwdriver". So, needless to say he has tested the temper on many a GEC.

Another person I met, was a young man by the name of Billy Howard. Sound familiar?
Billy has been working for his father for the last couple of years and he seems to be really enjoying it. He is definitely a fan of what they do and you can see it in his eyes when he talks knives. I enjoyed shooting the breeze with him for a while and I'd love to talk more. Great guy and it looks like he is doing a good job too.

Of course a few knives followed me home.
