I got this Noonan & Sons "Gold Eagle" blade from Miller Bro's for a rebuild project. I'm going to use ebony for the scale material. Here it is so far...A light buff:Rough out the scales:I'll work on it some more and post photos as I go. Hope you enjoy!

A little spit 'n' polish, some fine tuning with sandpaper, and, since I don't know what I'm doing, I epoxied a transluscent plexiglas wedge in the butt 'cause I don't want it to move ever again. Hope it closes ok when I pin it together tomorrow! If so, a little more sanding and I'll show the finished piece. Or, if things don't go well... well there's always plan B. I noticed I already screwed up by not polishing the inside of the plex, but maybe it won't matter. Also, I haven't figured out an easy way to drill the holes square and perpendicular even though I'm using a drill press. The scales are only flat on one side, so lining both holes up and drilling square is a bit of a problem without going to the trouble of making a jig. I think I'll skip the gold leaf... I just don't have the patience.

Where did you get your washers and pin stock?

Its easier to drill the holes while everything is square. Clamp the scales together, drill and then shape it all up while paying attention to where the holes are. Leave yourself plenty of extra at the edges. Nice work.

I used 2-3 coats Atom Wax for leather for an undercoat, inside and out before assembly, then a couple coats of Renwax and a buff. The photos are actually before I gave it a light buff with a loose wheel; really brought out the finish.
