All About Pocket Knives

I know I read it here, but I can't find it or who said it. But the topic was buck folders needing to be cleaned out because of the polishing grit in them. The jist of the matter was that they'll have much better snap after they are cleaned.

Well I thought that my new 301 was pretty good as is. It had great snap, just the right amount of tension opening and closing, and pretty dang smooth to boot. Well, after some use it was time to touch it up on the old F. Dick sharpening steel, so I thought I'd give her a good dousing of wonder juice (aka WD-40) to clean her up a bit and see if it did anything to the over all opening and closing. Boy did it ever.

It was good before, but now she'll sure enough snap closed. If you haven't tried it, do so now. I used the new type can with the permanently attached straw, opened up all the blades halfway so that it could get in between the spring and the blades real good, and blew it out good. It made a big difference, and she shines like new now.

That new can is the best thing since white bread.

Truer words have never been spoken. I love that new can. I love WD40 too. It ain't the best lube in the world, but it's a dang fine cleaner. I use it to clean the bores of my shotguns. It'll take out powder and plastic wad fouling like nobody's business and it won't break the bank either. I don't use it in the actions, but in the bore it is fine stuff.

I like it to clean out my edc knives too. Oh, and this may be bad of me, but I like the smell too!

That's because the main ingredient in WD-40 is Stoddard Solvent (a good degreaser). Look up the MSDS. There's nothing in WD-40 that is considered a lubricant.

Yep, like Hoppes #9 and that famous new car smell - we're just sucking in those VOC's!! Guess I am permanently brain damaged from all those good smells over the years!

Jerry, you're right. Very little "oil" in it. It do clean good though.
