All About Pocket Knives

Found this at a garage sale cheap...I don't know anything about bayonets, but I was so happy about the old Gerber Mark I at $20.00 that I took the bayonet too, same price.
7" blade, 12" overall length. 2 pc. bakelite? or plastic handles, heqavily checkered, black finish, - USM8A1 on scabbard throat, 1/4" high, PWH underneath that, 1/8" high.
Anyone tell me what it's for?

Looks like a Vietnam to present day M7. Not a great bayonet but it will get the job done. I think they usually go for about $15-$20.

What IH said. M-7 bayonet for the M-16 rifle and the USM8A1 Scabbard which fits the M-1 Carbine M-4 bayonet plus the M-14 M-6 bayonet as well as the M-16 M-7 bayonet.

Jerry, don't leave out the M-3 Trench Knife; it was the original of the M-3, M-4, M-5, M-6, & M-7 blade configuration US issue fighting knives/bayonets. OH

Colonel, I had to look all that stuff up. I didn't know none of those 'M' numbers in the first place. "Yep, got my bayonet hanging in the right place on my web belt and it's clean. I'm ready for inspection." "Sir, it must be the right one for the M-14 'cause it's the one Supply issued to me and we all know, Supply don't make no mistakes."

I watched a video last week on field stripping the M-14. I didn't remember none of that stuff.

Ps The M-3 is my favorite of the bunch - real clean looking without all the locking devices for hanging the bayonet on the rifle.

Yuengling Lager? You got it - that is my number one, hands down favorite - didn't know it was even known about east of the original 13 colonies. That is a very nice bayonet you have there, it looks virtually new (as does the scabbard) - how did you find one in that nice of condition?
