All About Pocket Knives

does anyone know if there were any bullet knives made without the pattern number on them. and did the pal company make any bullet knives? were they all made by remington until the advent of the repo bullets by camillus in the later years?

The big HTT did not have a pattern number. (Hunter Trader Trapper). It is known
as a R 293. There are very rare Pal marked Bullets.

thx mr. stockman, thats the very pattern i was referring to....

i know it was only available for 50 cents along with a $2 subscription to that magazine. but its just very curious as to why remington did that knife with a pattern number but didn't stamp it on the blade.

The knives that they made for specials orders like the HTT and the chewing gum knife
did not usually have a pattern number. The Remington collector may see your questions
and give more details. Do you have a R 293 HTT?

yes i do have one of those htt banana trappers. that is why i was wondering about the no pattern number, but the books list it as an r293. it is in great shape and very very hefty. it is the sister to my 1253 only i think the htt clip is just a tad more beefier..

edit: i take that back. actually the 1253 is the sister to the 293

thats the knife stockman. but there is one difference with my htt. mine has the traditional triple ringed front bolster, just like the 1253.

c12c, I have seen them both ways, Mel Brewsters book Remington Bullet Knives
shows one like mine. I like the lined bolsters best. look forward to seeing your knife.

was yours cleaned, or is that the original look? it looks like new. mine is as full as yours, but shows lots of patina age. no rust and no bone chips or cracks.

i finally got around to taking the pics of those two rems. can't rush a good thing you know. the 1253 still has the blade etching, even though it has been well used by a contractor that i purchased it from. the both are vintage used and i would not dream of cleaning them up. i just noticed the slight remnants of the blade etch on the 293 by enlatging the photo. hard to see it with my eyesight
