All About Pocket Knives

We're so used to getting bombed by others on this site...I was surprised today.

My sister is visiting from Virginia, and being the thoughtful person that she is and knowing what a knife nut I am, she has been on the lookout for knives for me. She dropped this bomb on me today.




They're not all winners...that's not the point. But the one that is opened is a nice Pal.

I guess she forgot all that fighting we did as kids.

Hats off to your sister! You know it's funny but I remember acts such as this long after I remember the great score I made on an expensive piece.We should all be so lucky to have relatives such as this.

Well, my sister bombed me again. She is very thoughtful, and knows I like pocketknives. She is visiting for the holidays, and brought me these:



She has a pretty good eye, IMO.

The bone one is a VOOS.

I have that same yellow Imperial....that's a solid Jack! I like the brightness of the yellow, makes it stand out in the knife box, jumps right out at ya!

Well, she did it again!

She dropped this MOAB on me last weekend...








The gem of the bunch is the 72. The covers were really going bad, so this will be an obvious project knife. I don't know anything about the stone, I'll have to give it a test drive.

That Gesco knife is a Pakistan knife. Looks like horn handles and brass bolsters. Not too bad construction. Secondary blade is snapped off, but the main blade snaps well. The steel on these any good?

That stone .............. WOW! That looks like a "Hard Arkansas" oil stone. And it looks to be one inch thick. Is it?

It is 1" thick, 7" long, and 2" wide...

That's just a beautiful stone, Glenn.
Is it indeed a Arkansas stone?

Glenn -- The long line Camillus Scout knife is a 1047, one of the earlier variations. Probably from the '50s. I suppose it could be from the early '60s before they consistently started using Delrin. The blades look great. How's the snap on 'em?

I don't know about the Gesco, but at the cutlery store we would not sharpen Pakistani knives on the Gerber wheel we had. It seems there were pieces of carbon embedded in the steel. The first time I hit one of those pieces of carbon I got a face full of stone chips from the wheel.
After hitting another piece in the next Pakistani knife, I banned Pakistani knives from the wheel.
It wasn't until we got a 1" belt sander that I would sharpen Pakistani knives again.

You shouldn't have a problem though if you are sharpening them by hand.
Some of them are very hard and difficult to sharpen, but aside from that it is probably OK.

Very snappy! Other than a little surface corrosion, blades look pretty full. Someone's gonna like this one...

Thanks for the info, Dale. I may try it out, but you probably know how that experiment will end...

Your sister has a good eye and seems to be hitting some great knife spots...you should now appologise for the rubber snake in her dresser incident...Don't all brothers do that????
