All About Pocket Knives

Here's the only Model 69 I own. At one time it had "For Flesh Only" on the spey blade and "DeLuxe something-something" on the California clip. I'm curious about any variations in the "file work" on the liners. As you can see, mine has a little on the spring side of the center liner and a little on the blade side of the scale liners.

Listed in the 1965 catalog as a "De Luxe Premium Stock Knife" - 4" closed. It has the same milling as my #80 "De Luxe Carpenter's and Whittler's Knife". Only five knives in that catalog had the term "De Luxe" associated with them, the #29, #69, #80, #82 and #83. The #69 also shows up (listed with milled nickel silver liners) in the 1946 and 1948 catalog. It's in the 1972 and later catalogs as the "Rancher Camillus De Luxe" with nickel silver liners but it doesn't say "milled". You probably already know that tang stamp is the one that is generally accepted as being on knives made 1960-1976.

A #69 with bone handles, grooved bolsters, also jimping in top & bottoms of liners.
These pictures show the fancy work, called jimping, on the liners.

Definitely a Deluxe stock knife!
It must have been well loved, used and admired to judge from the wear on the blades.
After all that use you could put it in your pocket, hop on your horse and it is ready foe a full days work on the ranch.
A truly timeless pattern!

Thanks jerry6818, for pointing out the other DeLuxe patterns and making me realize my knife has nickel silver liners. I used to be very aware of which of my Case knives had that upgrade and didn't expect to see it on this Cam, so I completely overlooked it.

And thanks to Dale for the new word: "jimping". Its is interesting to me that your much older knife has the same jimping as mine.

Camillus was not known for throwing anything away.
Unless the machinery that does the jimping was totally wrecked, both knives were probably jimped on the same machine.

Shiny blades make this one hard to photograph. It has the long line under Camillus stamp. Looks to have the same milled liners as the other two examples in the thread.

I don't usually do "attaboy" type posts, but that is one beautiful knife, thawk. A high quality knife in great condition, with gorgeous scales, well photographed, and the post itself adds to the knowledge base. This is what brings me back to this forum every day. Thank you, sir!

I was so inspired by these 69's, I had to have one. I'm very pleased with the knife EXCEPT some bone head "cleaned" the back springs so heavily that what little jimping they had back there is gone. Annoys me no end. Other than that the knife is in good condition. Etch is light on the spay blade but still legible and the main blade etch probably isn't as dark as when new but still easy to read.

I have a '76-'89 edition of the #69 and they dropped the jimping on those. I recall being very disappointed when I finally got the knife in hand.

They are T.J. If you are partial to a muskrat blade, you'll fall in love with these. If I hadn't given my spare to David The Destroyer, I'd send one to you.
