All About Pocket Knives

A friend gave me a Slim Line Trapper yesterday that is going to be a keeper for me. It is my 1st Buck pocket knife, even if it is a Camillus made knife and not Buck made. It will have a place in my never part with display case. No pic for now guys but y'all know what they look like anyway.

The 311 is a very nice knife - great first Buck too, it might not be your last! I have bid on two Buck 311's, but let them get away after going a little higher than I was willing to part with. I will add one to my accumulation of Bucks one of these days.

There are five variations or 'versions' of the 311. The first is tang stamped BUCK, Made In U.S.A.. The second is tang stamped BUCK, 311, U.S.A.. The third is stamped like the second but if you look in the blade well you will see small, clear/white nylon plugs that act a bumpers for the front of the blades. I have not read why they were added but likely it had to do with blades hitting bottom. This third version is in the last couple of years of issue. Fourth is tang stamped as the second but with serrated secondary blade. Issued only 88 - 90. The fifth is the very first version stamped like the first version listed but with brass scale rivets. I have seen almost no other of these except my own. Sometimes in discussions 'salesman samples' is used to describe these old first issue scale rivet versions....... FYI. 300Bucks

I added this link because I got a good laugh out of the description and wanted to share it (I am not making or implying any bad comments about the seller - they have it listed for .99 cents and a fair shipping price, so no flames from me). I loved the remark about the original owner obviously knowing how to sharpen a knife - one blade is broken off and missing, the other is half the original length - I thought the narrative should win an award for creative writing. I hope the knife finds a new owner who will cherish it as much as the original owner must have!!
