All About Pocket Knives

just received this set and was wondering if anyone knows when they were produced,who was the customiser,quantities etc.

Tang stamps read SCHRADE + over LB7 / LB5 / LB3 / LB1
Brown box-Gold letters reading SCHRADE 1357 on end & SCHRADE CUSTOMIZED Uncle Henry Lockbacks on top.Foam & Felt inserts in box with 3 Black sheaths,no paperwork.
Set # 125 stamped on all tang side bolsters.

The stag in the handles are very nice and the filework to the back springs and spines are also very uniform.

Now i just gotta find room to display 'em.......

I don't know the date, though someone here may, but the stag screams HERMAN WILLIAMS to me.
I imagine these were earlier on, as I think his file work style has evolved.

This is another i have had for a while,appears to be the around the same age & same filework pattern tho not as deep,tang reads SC 507 and limited edition blade etch

Maybe Eric knows who else did customs at Schrade besides Herman.

There were some LB7 & LB5s, IIRC, that has that sort of scroll work on the bolsters, but I have not seen that on one with brass bolsters, usually on nickel silver bolsters from the ones I have seen.
I think they were part of the Heritage series in the 80s.

These are nice workbacks. Very nice torched handles. I don't know who did them. I was unaware that Schrade ever produced any filework, other than what I did. I did know that one person working in the sample room at Schrade experimented with trying to duplicate my filework. The filework on these knives does not look like anything he ever did. The file work on these knives is a basic repetitive pattern. I never used this type filework. Danny Jones, who is now deceased, was the person at Schrade who was working on this. Unless you know of more of these sets, I would suspect this set was put together as a presentaion set for someone. The file pattern used is a fairly easy one to do.

There was lots of things made up at Schrade that was there when they went out of business. A lot is showing up for sale now. I just wish I could help you more with researching this set, but I just am not familiar with this set. Maybe you could obtain some information from the person who sold you the set. I to, would like to know some history on these and know who did the filework. If you find out more, I would appreciate the information.

I have actually seen 3 sets for sale on ebay over the last couple of years , the 125 serial number on the set i have so far appears to be the highest..........the quest continues..........Mark

I "bolded" out a comment H. Williams made about filework above. It makes me wonder if he has seen this 1993 Schrade Custom Brochure showing six standard patterns that were available. Is it all his work shown? http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/ ... ograms.pdf

All six of the filework patterns look like Hermans work to me , i will try and find out for sure though .
