I sent an email to Bear expressing my disappointment with the 2009 & 2010 Boy Scout replica knives. He sent this back to me. I have asked him to post on AAPK relative the original tooling. It might prove interesting.

please return the knives to my attention with a note of whats wrong and I'll be glad to to our best to solve them.

one thing that you maybe not aware of these were made from the old 1920's tooling which is pancake tooling so lets say a back spring it blanked nothing but the back spring and then you take the next tool and punch the hole and it's done by just laying it on a steel block with the hole to allow the punch and outline of the parts this allowed a lot of tolerances that not done on today tooling.


we've had a lot of remington collectors with large collections speak high on the knives.

I have discussed these knives before in great length, needles to say I am not surprised you sent them back or are disappointed.

The claim was that they were EXACT replicas of the original knife I can find at least 5 things that are not the same as the originals.

I don`t think there is a company in existence in the country that can duplicate an original, JMO.

"Has anyone purchased a Remington RS4233 R2 Official Boy Scouts of America 2010 knife?

One of my best friends was very involved in scouting back when his son was growing up and now his son, who is in his 40s is still involved in scouting. Given this, I decided, even though my buddy's a train guy and not a knife guy, a 2010 Scout knife would be a good birthday present for his 69th birthday. I found one at a good price and ordered it. It came today. What a POS. It looks like something that was made in Japan in the 70s. Everything is just flat ground. There are no radiused corners on the handles or bolsters. I'm terribly disappointed and am seriously considering returning it. I would be embarrassed to give this as a gift. I'll post pictures tomorrow when it's light enough to take some. I would appreciate other opinions. I understand these were made by MGC and I had higher expectations."

I ended up sending it back to Bear at Ken's request and he made it right.

Guys, thanks for the input. I probably have read every post on AAPK relative to the Bear replicas. I just couldn't really believe that a knife that cost so much could be that poorly made. My reason for the post today was just to advise that a posting from Bear relative to the "original" tooling had been requested. I did not make that clear. For that I apologise. Unfortunately, I do not get out too much these days due to an accident a few years ago. I probably spend 2 - 4 hours a day on AAPK. Just keep them coming!

Anyone happen to know when the 2012 replicas will come out? I have the 2009, 2010, and 2011. Think it's suppose to be a 5 year program.
