All About Pocket Knives

I just got this knife that has no tang or handle markings. It is exactly like one of my RS3333 with two exceptions. The liners are steel and there is no shield. No brass on this knife at all. Did Remington make any knives with no brass?

I just counted 8 or 9 Remingtons in my collection that have what I think are nickel-silver liners, very difficult to tell from steel, that's out of a total of 50. Could your liners be nickel-silver?

I would think at least one member would have a Remington scout with steel or nickel-silver liners if they are authentic.

I would be much more concerned about the lack of a tang stamp.

Or the lack of a shield.

I think the knife with the steel liners you have is a Pal Blade Co. knife. They took over Remingtons production of scout and utility knives during WWII, that would account for the all steel liners. I in fact do have an official scout knife made by Pal during this period and the liners are all steel.

I checked some of my Remington scouts and they all have nickle or brass liners, which is right if they got out of the knife business before the war, there was no need to use steel as brass and nickle was not being rationed.

Without a shield it is just a utility knife from during or just after WWII

Thanks for the input. The bolsters are nickle silver, but I am satisfied the liners are steel. Plus, there is some pitting on the liners. I knew that is was not an official Boy Scout. I do have a Pal official Boy Scout, identical to the RS3333, with round shield, except that it has steel bolsters and liners with plastic handles an a 2 piece opener. (Right now it only has a 1 piece opener, as 1 piece is broken off.) The bail is a bit different than the two knives pictured. I have noticed that all my Remington's have bluing on the punch blade. I do not see any bluing on any of my utility/scout Pal punches. I sure do wish that Remington had maintained their knife production. Case probably would not be around today, IMHO.
