All About Pocket Knives

I'm a pretty lazy whittler/carver, but occasionally I actually finish something up. This is my third bowl. The wood is butternut. It's a gift for my youngest sister and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

But I have to ask a stupid question; is that a functional kitchen bowl? If so, what do you seal it with so the food doesn't stain the bowl, or food doesn't pick up a taste from the finish?

No, it isn't functional. At least it isn't intended to be.

Great Job Popedandy! Paul, you can wipe raw wood down generously with mineral oil (food grade is better) and let it soak it in before wiping off the excess; wipe occasionally with a little fresh mineral oil. After this treatment you can hand wash the bowl and so use for salad, nuts etc. Great stuff also super for soaking old knives in to get them clean and hydrated in the case of bone, wood, or stag.
