All About Pocket Knives

Best I can tell this is a Tested 2210. Please confirm. 3-1/8 inches. Does the shield look legit? I've seen a couple of blanks in the books before where the ends seem slighty rounded. I can see outline of a pin on shield with magnification.
Not sure what how long this shield was used or for particular patterns, if legit? Any thoughts?

I have a 2220 from the XX Era with a blank shield, so maybe it was around transition time from the two eras. I recall Steve mentioning the "blank shield" period also, but don't know if a time frame was put to it.

You're going to have to break down and buy yourself a good knife reference book . If most of your knives are Case , I recommend American Premium Guide to KNIVES & RAZORS 7th Edition by Jim Sargent . This knife is listed and pictured on page # 213 of this guide as a 2210 complete with the mention of the plain shield .

All my knives are Case. I have Sargent's 5th, 6th and 7 edition in addition to Steve's book, IBCA guide to antique knives, Voyles catalogs and others. I saw the knife you are referring to in Sargent's 7th page 213 before I posted this.

With all due respect, I looked at that knife in the book compared to mine. First thing I noticed was that the ends of the blank shield in Sargent's book appear slightly rounded as I stated. The pic of the knife I posted has "pointy" ends in my opinion. I looked at both under magnification. Picture in the book is difficult to see but even under magnifiaction and naked eye, look rounded to me. Pretty noticable difference to me, hence reason why I asked. Maybe I am wrong.

Based on that, wondering if this is a unique or known shield for Case, or some conterfiet job.

zp4ja, Your description of the plain shield as having "pointy" ends is what seems to be out of place. It doesn't seem to match any thing in any of my limited reference material. If this is a "fake" then maybe I'm learning a little and if it's genuine we'll know that Case made shields with "pointy" ended ovals. Treefarmer

It looks like a 24 pattern to me. I think in the Tested era it would have been a 22024. I had one identical to that one, same plain shield. Looks ok to me.
