Tang stamp reads P.C.C. Prov. U.S.A.

Scott, I don't know the answer to your question, but that is the coolest bolster stamp I have seen on a Barlow.

I know.....I know.....and I am fighting the urge to sell it on eBay and keep it for myself.

Scott I checked Blade's Guide and Goin's and neither book showed any listing for that tang stamp. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I too like the bolsters.

Hi Scott, I debated if I was going to sell that Barlow or keep it. I don't the answer but I believe its from Pov. Cut. co. Doesn't that have the Anheuser-Bush logo on the pile side on the handle? Goings says knives with that marking were made by Camillus. 1932-1948. I thinks its way too new for that. I'll hold out for Prov Cut. until someones who knows, provides an answer. I'm glad that you got that and hope you get an answer.

Are the back of the blades dead flat - no grind?
If so - Prov. Cut Co.

Dan - yes sir, it has part of the Anheuser Busch logo still remaining on the back scales.

Joe- The grind is the same as the front.

Since the second line of the stamp is "Prov. USA" I would guess Providence Cutlery. Were it a Camillus knife it would be marked Camillus, NY. It also looks as if the knife has been heavily cleaned and buffed, note the darkening of the spring.

I agree, also not the tooling or quality of a Camillus barlow.

The grind on the back of the blades does not rule out Prov Cut Co. They can be found
both ways... with or without. The lack of a grind IS a characteristic of Prov Cut Co.

Looking at the construction of the knife, it DOES have the overall look of a Prov Cut Co.
product.
Almost has a shell handle look about it. Can you tell how the bolsters are attached?
Look between the liners to see if there are "tabs" folded over inside it.

I don't see a pin and the bolster material looks to have been cast. Is it steel??

(I'm pretty sure it IS Prov. Cut. Co. but a more current knife... I have never seen that stamp before.)

Looking between the liners it appears to be a tab or something folded over holding it on. One bolster is actually a little loose.

Is it possible the bolsters are aluminum?

I did the cleaning and polishing by hand.

Hey Scott you did a real fine job cleaning that up! I never noticed the tabs on it before or the loose bolster. She sure looks good man!

I am resurrecting this 12-year-old thread. As I have come across a P.C.C. PROV. U.S.A. Barlow. It's intact and looks good. I do not know who made it.

I have a couple Bayes USA barlows.
I've wondered who made them.
They are identical to these.
