Looking thru Sargents guide I've come across old Case knives handled in French pearl. Iwas wondering if this is real pearl or celluloid, and why "French"Slim

'French' is a substitute word for 'fake'.

That is a new one on me(see;you CAN learn something each day  ).I have heard the term,"French Ivory" that refers to a specific type of off white celluloid with parallel straight lines running through it.Commonly used on straight razors and some pocket knives.
