All About Pocket Knives

Mann & Federlein is listed in Levines 5TH edition and in Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings but neither gives any dates of operation for the company. Does anyone have any information as to when this company was in operation. They were in solingen Germany. Thanks

Mann & Federlein GmbH, Stahlwarenfabrik; Solingen-Ohligs, Eisenstrasse 17 in 1910, and Südstrasse 26 in 1939 when owned by Ernst Farsen.

Brand names: Juvenia (registered in 1909, no.123808, classes 9b, 23, 30), La Garçonne, Longines (1913, no. 183153, classes 5, 9b), Mann (1905, no. 83327, class 9b), Mannos (1906, no. 86072, class 9b), Rastrillo (1911, no. 148651, classes 5 and 9b, but usually found on safety razors), Suavesoi (1921, no. 273736, classes 5, 9b), Unicornio (in use by 1954), and Usus (1909/10, no. 124853, classses 9b, 23, 24). Trademarks: an 'MF' monogram within a circle; an encircled unicorn, head facing forward, one foreleg raised (sometimes mistakenly catalogued as a horse).

Founded in 1895, owned by Adolf and Alfred Mann in 1900, this partnership was not listed in the DRAB again until 1939. As the 1954-vintage leaflet confirms, Mann & Federlein-makers of fine quality pocket knives — specialised in exporting to Spanish-speaking areas of Central and South America; 'Mannos'-brand knives (Cuchilleria Mannos) were sold by representatives in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Havana and Bogota.
