All About Pocket Knives

I found this old Empire knife with a bad handle. I want to replace the handles with something close to original. What kind of wood is this? Has the small blade been re-shaped into a screwdriver? This is the first pocket knife I've ever seen with the nail mark on the opposite side as the tang mark. Thanks, Al

Ebony wood handles.

Blade was a screwdriver/wire stripper, but has been shortened.
