All About Pocket Knives

Would this knife be correct with respect to the prince albert offer? I just saw lt632ret's display with the 3 knives and the prince albert can. And I already have the can and was just thinking about adding the knives.

It looks like the right knife to me. The only thing that looks different (not saying wrong) is the handles. It looks a bit too reddish for Delrin, but that is probably the pic or my monitor. It looks a lot like the 50OT I have with bone handles. I have not seen a 58OT with bone handles, but I suppose anything is possible.

After looking at the tang stamp, I think that it is Delrin, with a more reddish appearance to it (at least by my monitor......which is old). The tang stamp looks right to me.

I hope you get the knife. If it is bone, then you have a major score.

I have one in the collection for the, Prince Albert knives, the 58OT. One thing that I have noticed, about the Ulster 58OT is that, the handles are brown delrin all the way to the bolsters. this seems to be consistant on all the knives I have seen, If you take a look at all the Schrade Old Timer's, they have the lighter brown fall off towards the bolsters. just an observation, the 58OT definately looks different from the Later Old Timers.

Thanks for the links and information. I had read the links about the Prince Albert offer and thought I was on the right knife. However since I have never had one in hand I was unsure if it were authentic. I've got the knife on my watch list and plan on placing a bid later. I just wanted the advice of someone with knowledge in this matter. Thanks a bunch.

Thankyou . Yes that appears to be a 58-OT . Colors are also not another of my specialitys. I guess that is part of my ridgitity I mainly see things in black and white. So at least you cannot accuse me of being predjudiced because of color. In any event one must remember that aside from Schrades normal propensity to make variations on any pattern or issue. ( which makes them more interesting since you never know what will turn up ). They also being human had unplanned variations handle variations were fairly common even with Schrades high standard of quality control. The original color of these delrin handles is an uninteresting grey which looks rather like something in a model or piece of plumbing plastic. This is then dyed dropped in a hot controled heated vat of dye and the color cooked in. Often times the color variations of the dye time and other variables caused fluctuations in the final product. I believe the question comes when you ask yourself do I want the 3 pieces in the set to match. because if the color is off on one I ( who has kind of a Mr Monk syndrome) would want them all to be the same. Also when looking for the utility ie boy scout type knife. While it is a 114 pattern the decerning factor is the Old Timer shield this is was makes them a bit harder to find. Still they made enough so I am sure you will . Oh yes and when putting this together do not forget the coupon you had to send in it was part of the set. The coupon has been posted before so If you cannot find it or someone dosen't post a copy let me know and I will drag down the display. I am not sure if I have any others lieing around. By the way staglon handles for the UH line were sometimes white and then dyed. I will post some pics if I can dig out any raw material sit is in an unheated building and it is arounf 15 degrees F. ( F is for farenheit not a social comment on the cold. ). I really hate to disturb the mice out there . In keeping with the Ulster theme here, I offer for your oglement a recently received Ulster 3 1/2" swell center. I usually call a knife this size a double end Jack, as Bernie Levine mentions, as opposed to a pen knife, which seems a more appropriate name for 3 1/4" and smaller knives, I don't know why!
This one is tang stamped on both blades, and has 02248 on the main reverse. I think the bone looks like one someone called Rogers bone, but I am just learning the difference; confusing at best! Please let me know, if you know!!

Why do they call the 58 OT a whittler on the papers that came in the can?
