old red letter set

i know this may be a vague question but i have been offered a 78 0r 79 red bone handle red letter set of 7 knives for 600 dollars. mint set, is it too much?

There were 14,000 of those sets made in 1978 and the handles are Stag. Tony Foster presently has a complete set valued at 750.00. They usually sell for a bit less than that, so I'd say 600.00 is a fair price. The Muskrat is the most popular pattern in the set followed by the Trapper.

You said "mint set"; if the bolsters a scrolled (mint set -vs- standard bolsters) it helps somewhat.

have not seen em yet, will look at them on thursday. i work with this guy who is a want to be dealer and he really got me to likeing knives. but he has a tendency to overprice his stuff. i paid too much a few times before i learned better. was not looking for this set but he approached me. just wanted to find out a little about it. thanks guys

Yes I am getting ready to sell a set myself, and I have no idea how many are in the set- I have 10 knives in the box- there is one that says "appaloosa" in gray lettering 2 dots- so i'm assuming it is not part of the set. Does anyone know how many came in the set ? is it 7 or 9? thanks in advance!- i just saw one go on ebay for 611.00 not sure if it was mint or not if that helps-- here are pictures of mine thanks in advance

was there an additional 3 added later or something? i thought i read that about the red scroll set is it the same for the red letter?
