All About Pocket Knives

I'm researching a newly acquired knife. Sorry about the quality of the
picture. It's a vintage 4" double blade, Brass and enamel. It is marked
CARLSCHMIDTSONN, a small house under that mark, and SOLEGIN
under the house. I have located what looks like the maker in Germany
but don't know if they will answer my email. The colors of the enamel
are much deeper and richer than the photo shows. Any thoughts?

Hi Carl. A very warm welcome to the site. I have this Carl Schmidt & Sohn knife. It has a bakelite or similar early plastic handle (not celluloid) I think it is from the early 1900s. The guy that sold it to me said c1910. Here is the mark. It looks similar to your description. What do you think?No Germany on the tang probably means that it was made for the local German market rather than for export. That's all i have for now. Will try to find out more for us. s-k

Thanks, S.K. Yes, that is the mark. The previous owner, when he was
alive, was a geologist who traveled the globe. I suspect he brought it
back from Germany. A dealer, who know little about knives, told he
he thought this one was from around 1920.

Researching this has caused a whole new addiction to surface:-)
