All About Pocket Knives

Made a trade a few weeks back. My Christmas present to myself. One of the razors is a KROPP. Appears to be NIB. Blade covered with sticky goo.




There was another KROPP in the pile. Appears to be pretty much unused but loks like somebody started to set a bevel and quit.






Nice Lockwood Brothers appears pretty much unused as well. More sticky goo.

Willie, that "sticky goo" is probably cosmoline. Cosmoline melts at 113-125 °F and it comes off pretty easily in hot water.

I don't think it's cosmoline. Doesn't feel or smell right, ain't near sticky enough either. LOL

Right now, I've got so many that need work, I'm just gonna let the goo stay put as it is protecting those blades.

I may learn to restore these damn things. Not near as many parts as pocket knives. LOL

Wullie....just thinking out loud here (I know....I shouldn't be thinking )....could it be old shaving cream or something similar left on it? Or maybe something else barbers use to keep razors from rusting? I would tend to think cream would rust a blade but I may be wrong? From the pics it don't look nasty enough to be cosmoline....I'll stop thinking now....hurts my head!

It's the European version of cosmoline. Not as nasty as the US military stuff but very similar.

I've been doing some cleaning on the really rusted ones. Only cut myself once so far.

I'm having fun and enjoying them.

You have some nice ones in there. A few years ago I went to a flea market and seen a bag of blades lying on a tarp, sign said anything on the tarp $1.00

They were all old razor blades that had the handles stripped don`t know why, most of the blades were in excellent condition, some broken and worn.

I think there were just under 100 blades in that bag IIRC

Rehandling a razor doesn't appear to knock the value for a user.

I'm thinking about gettin my shop back together and giving it a go.

Hey Wullie, what does Pampa under the Lockwood Bro's stand for?

PAMPA was one of their brand names as far as I can figure out. They used it on some of their knives as well.

Wostenholm had his pipe and I guess the Lockwoods had their bird and their Pampa.

It is interesting that the word originates from S America and translates to "plains".

Well that's too cool. I live in Pampa TX. I saw that name and had to ask! I don't collect razors, but that would be a neat one to have. Thanks for the explanation, Kelley

Wind don't ever blow in Pampa, never gets cold up there either.

Sure did, tried to run the liquor store out of scotch waiting for the wind to get low enough to set a domed lid on one of their new storage tanks.

Three days of paid to get drunk. LOL

When the wind FINALLY got below 15mph, it took longer to rig up on the lid than it did to lift it and set it.

Then we spent a day tearing the crane down and headed back to Cowtown.

Nuthin left out there now but the office buildings. Sorry bout gettin off topic. I'll quit now.
