All About Pocket Knives

i've had this little remington nehi for about 30 years. probably not real. i've looked at several of the repros and compared mine with them. the tang stamp is a little light. the springs on the repros all look stamped out (pinch marks down the center). mine is smooth and polished. any way to determine when mine was made? guys, pitch in if you have any info. thanks

The tang stamp if not a repro is mid twenties. If you check this URL you will see nehi first came out then also. LG IV shows some leg knives on page 138. None of examples shown have the rivets. Nehi hit the bigtime again in the forties. Sounds as though this is a remake from that era. All of what I said could be total brown stuff also. Its just a small amount of investigation and then making a WAG. Regardless it is a fine looking knife,
if from the twenties it might worth a couple hundred if you find the right buyer. Given this knife the nehi name was coined by the bottles being knee high. Thats sort of neat.

thanks w.b. i appreciate your input. i have brl3, no pic of it. i have sargent's 3 and 5. both editions show the pins (rivets?) like mine. i don't care either way. 20s or 40s would suit me fine. better than a jap repro from the 70s. when i got it it was old looking then. i know, that don't mean a thing.

I never did get intrested in nehi knives. But an original should have a blade etch as well as a swadge in the blade. Take a look at this one.

i re-looked the knife up in sargents and his illustrations look like mine, no swedge or etch on them. could the earlier (20s) be different than the later (40s)? or his model is not real as well.
i'll keep it open for more info for now.

As soon as I can find some time, I'll try to dig up some more info on the Nehi knives. I'm looking at Sargents 6th edition page 486, and that one has a swedge, and no etch. I'm fairly confident it had one when it left the factory. Another tale-tale sign to check for is the long pull. It should go all the way, flush with the tang. I've noticed on some of the reproductions, it stops just short of the tang. But as is with most everything there are exeptions to the rules. At one time I read a list of differences between the authentic and repros, now if I can just remember where it was at.
