Nice Stag Fight'n Rooster Cotton Sampler

I bought this nice cotton sampler at a gun and knife show over the weekend. It is one of my favorites in my collection now.

That is fine looking stag,
You just don't see that kind of stag put on knives anymore. Does anybody know why?

From what I've read there has been an embargo on Sambar Stag by India. A common method to collect the dropped antler was to set fires to make the antler easier to find, but this created environmental damage/disasters especially in the rainy season where whole towns could be lost in mudslides. In addition the Tiger shared some of the same habitat. I've also read that this created "torched stag" but others have said that this was done afterwards to enhance the stag, which in my opinion did not need any enhancement. I do know that Australia has hunting preserves with Sambar Stag and Axis deer (chital stag) that has been imported over 100 years ago and New Zealand may also. Hawaii also has Axis deer and I believe there are a few hunting preserves in the mainland USA also that has these animals and many others. I do not know why some stag is dark and some is light, perhaps the torched stag theory by burning the grasslands has merit.

Hello James,
Well once again after looking at your newest knife purchase it is positively plausible that we are telepathicaly linked...
A great looking knife there my friend, how is it that I have been on the hunt for any and all Cotton Sampler knives here lately and did not even know that FightN' Rooster had one of their own...I should have expected them to have one somewhere in their arsenal they always seem to be on the cutting edge of slipjoint cutlery models...
Your knife is very nice and I want it...

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Tank, I bought the knife at the gun and knife show at Jackson, TN. Were you there? That isn't very far from Shiloh. Sunburst, if I run on to another one, I will let you know.

Yes, Jackson is only about 35 miles away but I can't travel so I do my shopping off the net and thru friends so keep an eye open for two

Tank, the wife and I have been to Shiloh and the Adamsville area several times. We have been to the Pusser museum there in Adamsville a couple of times.

O how sweet this is tank and jfarmer are going to meet some day.
I sure would like to be a mouse in the corner and lisen to every thing they say.
One's again thank you Bryan for this super site.
Not a thing like 2 knifers getting to gether because of AAPK.
I hope more people take the time and do this.
