All About Pocket Knives

This is being advertised on eBay is being in the original packaging (that had been opened - it is noted as such by the seller) I am by no means an expert on Camillus yet, but as far as I know the Hawkbill is #1 (or #1001 pre '46) and the knife is advertised as having a #1 stamped on the blade. I don't know what the Camillus #10 looks like, but I am pretty sure this is not the correct packaging for the Hawkbill, as I am pretty sure the Hawkbill is by no means a skinning knife....
Please understand that I have no intention of running anyone down - I would just like your opinion/s and hope to learn something in the process..

Well, the package printing and the blade etch match, looks correct to me. The #10 would be the Channel-lock designation?? And, I think the term "skinning" is referring to something other than animals.

I have not seen the Channel Lock packaging before, or a knife with the Channel Lock colored handles, but Channel Lock had Camillus make a lot of knives for them. I have multiple electrician knives with Channel Lock etch on the blade & the Camillus tang stamp.
The #10 is Channel Lock’s number & #1 is Camillus’ model number.

I like Channel Lock tools and have several different ones; they are some of the last made in the USA!


Skinning refers to removing the outer cover of electrical wires & cables. Schrade made a hawkbill for electricians with the blade etch: SKINNING AND SCRAPING KNIFE.

You see, there I learnt a whole lot of things! Thanks TJ and Dale - when TJ said the skinning referred to things other than animals I was racking my brains as to what he could mean - and Dale just cleared it up nicely!! Thanks again gentlemen, I learnt a good few things that I can add to my knife knowledge and that I am sure will stand me in good stead in the future.
