Thanks for the link, Willie. The Nords were definitely a civilization that depended on the knife. Actually I guess they still do. The birch and reindeer antler combination found on most makes for a hardworking but great looking combo.

Are the Helle knives, made in Norway, considered a Puukko?

I don't know the answer to your question, TJ, but I sure like your knife. Very singular handle. I bet that design evolved for a better grip in the cold wet fisheries of the Great White North. I perused some of the puuko links and the translations from Finnish are a real hoot. I still have no idea what I was reading.

TR and Tank. Thanks for your response. I was sort of coming to the conclusion that the knives made in Finland were called Puukkos and those made in Norway something else. I'll call it a Puukko.
