Was/is there a lockback version of the #23 Pioneer? I've seen the liner locks and the slippies but can't seem to find any reference to a lockback.

Nope, no #23 lockbacks yet. ::smirk::
Soon though, I have a feeling. ::paranoid::

Only lockback is a #72, which is 3 7/8" and somewhat similar to the scout.

Thanks for the info guys. I had a feeling there weren't any out there yet. I've got a #72 (thanks Mike :) ) and I love it. I'm tempted to get a #23 but I fear the stiff spring on the larger knives. I can't even open the Cattle Baron I bought, lol.

Yeah the #53s have good backsprings to them, I know it can be hard to get used to, but once your knife is worked in, it smoothes itself out. ::tu::

the liner lock on the pioneer has proved very reliable on my pioneer 2008 in spiral buffalo. however if a 23 lockback would make that pattern smoother & easier to open i would welcome the introduction. the 72 lockback which shares many features with the 73 scout is tons easier to open & close. of course this added feature to pioneers probably would come with a cost increase.---HiPower
