All About Pocket Knives

Howdy folks , just back from the hospital (again!!!) Got pnuemonia this time.....Dang.....if I can just get through this year .....Anyway, just received this knife in the mail and I`m not sure who the maker is and could sure you some help from you guys. My curiousity is drivin me nuts.....It`s an old bone handled Barlow with C.c.c. stamped onto both bolsters. Appears that the ricasso stamp is faded away but there is one very legible # at the base of the Master blade which is: 2139. The knife is 2 and 5/16ths inches long with the blades closed and looks to be very well made. Brass pins, steel liners and nickel silver bolsters. I just took a few quick scans , but hope to get good photos soon. Thanks for any help you may provide. Looks like they are going to keep me out of work a couple weeks so maybe I`ll have time to do some catching up here. Looking forward to it. Have a super day!

Curtin & Clark Cutlery commonly used the 3 C's stamping on their knives. But with the way that first "C" is larger, I don't think that would be it. Mr. Clark might have taken offense to Mr. Curtin's "C" being bigger then his. Cool old Barlow, whatever it is. WB

That number doesn't tell me too much about vintage or material

I think that Challenge used CCC also.

Your knife is a Cattaraugus . It probably never had the manufacterers name stamped on the tang . It was not unusual for Cattaraugus to omit the tang stamp when they used the "C.c.c." stamp on the bolster of a Barlow pattern . The #2139 designates 2=2 blades , 1=front bolster only , 39=barlow pattern w/bone stag handles and large spear blade . (the # 9 designates bone stag handles)

Thanks so much for the info....looks like we have a positive ID! Always knice to know and I`m just amazed at how much a person can learn on this site! By the way......I made a typo when I first made this listing. The knife is 3 and 5/16ths inches long with the blades closed....NOT 2 and 5/16ths....I havent been out of the hospital long and this ongoing fever is making me do some silly stuff

I figured that , but it is actually supposed to measure 3-3/8" long . Sometimes they are worn a little short and sometimes they lose a little length in the final buffing operation .

Didn't Canton Cutlery Company also use the C.c.c. stamp on the Barlow bolster ?

They may have , but I doubt that their # was 2139 .
