That's a fine spread. I'm loving that bare end. Is it rosewood or cocobolo?

New guy here. It's hard to tell size without a comparison to something else, like a quarter or other standard sized item.

Sharalds: The first knife is 3 & 7/8" in the closed position. It, along with all the others, was made sometime between 1869-1914.

Biglmbass: That one is rosewood.

Pima Pants: All are 3 & 7/8" in the closed position except the group of three equal-end knives which are 4 & 1/4" when closed.

GG, what is your criteria for a "Jumbo Jack"? I have a Boker English Jack and a S&M Slim Coke Bottle that are both over four inches long and quite a hand full. The name of that S&M may have slim in it but I'm here to tell ya, it ain't.

jerryd6818: Levine's Guide To Knives & Their Values 4th edition lists jumbos has being at least 3 & 5/8" long or longer and extra heavy made. This is the guideline that I primarily use. I agree with you about the English Jacks; they are big knives. I have a couple that are 4 & 1/8" in the closed position. To me, what sets the English Jacks apart from the jumbo jacks is the overall slimness of the knife in comparison to the jumbos.

You are exactly right though, they are still a hand full of knife.

Here are a couple of English Jacks that I have. Both are 4 & 1/8" when closed.

Good looking English Jacks. They could hang around my accumulation all they wanted to.

So a Jumbo Jack is not only long, it's also a couple of axe handles across the rear-end.

This Weidmannsheil is a handful too. I actually like the trick release lock.

I didn't post my English Jacks because I got the idea they don't really belong here. Maybe this Weidmannsheil does though.

Great looking knives guys I think this one qualifies. 3 7/8 long and definitely a handful. Snaps like a bear trap.

Here is some I posted on the Case forum in the Jacks thread "Jacks or Better to open...".

First knife is a CASE XX 5299-1/2 "A blade" Rail Splitter. What stag on this knife, in my opinion.

Second knife is a CASE TESTED 6299. Some interesting beautiful Case green bone for the era.

Big Jacks at 4-1/8".
