Price & Zalesky say it's worth $7,500 mint. You can still read the "Remington" blade etch. Too rich for my blood I'm sure but sweet none the less!

What is considered the range between grade excellent-to-mint?

i only went thru 2 of my books, the ones with pictures
2005 stewart & richie has it for $5000, and jim sargents 2004, has it for $8000.
these books are outdated i am sure, but there is only one year difference. it is the old testament that books can be very misleading.
still this knife is very rare, and rare is valuable. even if it isn't mint. let brett or 54rogers buy it, they will make it mint looking.

Remington Knife Display Case - $175 (Guttenberg) on Craigs list. I don't have any remington knives. but I thought someone might want to look at it. It is near Dubuque Iowa.

i did my drop in the bucket bid of $1000. i lasted a day at least before i got kicked out of the big leagues.

An hour and 20 minutes to go and hanging just over $1,000. This will be interesting to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if all the real bidding has already been done - the serious collectors who need this knife have already set their snipe programs and are just sitting back to wait for the last seconds. Yes, this will get very interesting.

I'm shocked! Went for $1,125. I was expecting to see it go for much higher. Do you think it would have, if it had been "buffed to mint"?

Valiant effort, Chet. I know you wanted that knife, but sometimes saving your powder for another day is the right thing to do. I hope you get one of those someday, and post a picture on AAPK.

Looks like you got sniped! I often think there are "shills" for these extremely high end items. I know the seller has to pay the fee, but if a $5000 dollar item is going for 20% value it makes sense, - - not fair - - but sense for the seller to have a shill with a snipe. IMHO

Chet, a "shill" is a friend or relative of the seller that bids, not with the intention of buying the knife but in the hopes of running the price up. They may also bid higher at the end of the auction should the seller feel the knife is going to sell for too low of a price.

"Sniping" is placing your top bid in the last couple of seconds of the auction in hopes it will be the highest bid and to ensure no one has a chance to out bid you. I do that all the time and see nothing wrong with it. Some feel it's not "fair". There are computer programs that will make your "snipe" bid for you automatically.

thanks jerry, i always suspected those tactics, just didnt know the proper vernacular. also i usually bid with 3 seconds with no assistance from auto bid..i put my ultimate highest, win or lose.....
i have mixed feelings about not winning this knife. but it would only go to my grandkids anyways...

I hear ya. And what will they do with your knives? Sell them as soon as you're cold in the ground for less than half of what they're worth, then blow the proceeds on what they think is important at the moment?

I may be just an old cynic but my friends and I have talked about this. What's important to us is not necessarily important to our children or grand-children.

oh,,,,,,so true. we talked about this too, one of these days i will take serious thought into unloading these 3000 plus knives before i or my wife are gone. the guy from scotland offered me more than 4 times what i paid for that knife,,,,this might be the begining.

I guess I think of it a bit different. #1-I wanna keep mine around 'til the very last minute & #2-Once i'm gone, i'm not gonna much care what they do with 'em. If selling them makes their live's better somehow, so be it. Besides, if I feel differently after the fact, i'll just come back and haunt 'em.

I'm gonna have my pine box fitted with lots of little drawers and have em put all the good ones in there . The junk I leave they'll try to figure out if they are worth anything and then can give them to the rug rats

and I'm to blame. Again.
