All About Pocket Knives

The individual I purchased this knife from told me that the "X" ground into the tang (it looks as if it was done with a dremel tool) on top of the Remington tang stamp indicates that it is the last canoe pattern manufactured in the "Carolina Plant" in 1997. I have been unable to confirm this and was wondering if anyone else might know something about it.

Knife is a second. "Second as not perfect"

I am sceptical that there ever was a knife plant in North Carolina. Remington corporate headquarters are in Madison, NC, but they don't do any production there.

I suspected as much. I didn't pay a lot for it and doubted the story. When I couldn't find any reference in the books I have I thought I'd ask here. Thanks.

A good story teller knows just enough to add some plausible details, even if he has to pull them out of thin air. For all that, it's a good looking knife, you didn't pay too much, you don't see the canoe pattern every day, and the X-ed out stamp is also something you don't see every day. I wonder who did make it - maybe Camillus?

It's in near mint condition with original box and paperwork. I gave the guy $20.00. I'm not upset. It would have been nice if there was something special about it but I didn't think he'd let it go that cheap if there really was. Always worth checking though.

Camillus would be my guess. I have a Camillus canoe as well and the similarities are unmistakable. The tang stamp is the circle Remington with USA around the circle.
