All About Pocket Knives

Well, seeing I have the pictures of this knife handy I might as well start a thread here in Knife lore about this elusive knife.

According to Goins this mark was a trademark used by Belknap Hardware from 1930-1940.
he goes on to say these are "Rare" and have been counterfeited.

If you have been following the thread in Q&A that fact is quite apparent.

Anyone else here have an original? If so please post a picture or two so we can see it

Here is a Pine Knot that I was offered about 2 or 3 months ago but never bought it it. I do not know anything about it, could be real could be fake. I didnt buy it but considered. What does the group think.

That second one has bits of red felt stuck to the front scale. The stamps also seem to be free of the blemishes that are on the rest of the knife and the black in the stamp seems a bit unusual. Still it might be real and even if it was a fake its a very nice knife.

Mike, if you compare the stamp on the knife you posted to the one in the Herrick Hardware thread you'll find the consensus of opinion is that it's not genuine.

In the mid 1950s a family moved here to Ohio from Kentucky . I was just a teen ager and the Father was an older man but we became good friends as he loved guns and knives just like me . He talked about Pine Knot knives as well as Russell Barlow . Don't know that I ever saw a real Pine Knot in person . Of course you see plenty of the modern ones with that stamp made by Colonial . Pretty sure the Belknap Hardware had the original Pine Knot brand .

Just found this thread after posting on 'General Knife Discussion". I have this PINE KNOT with its odd construction. Single spring pin, no scale pins, unknown shield attachment. Bolsters and pins seem to be "inlaid" into outer "tray-like" liners. The scales are very hard , black composite,(may even be black bone), very tightly fitted and showing no lifting or shrinkage. See pics. I've had it a long time but only recently figured out the worn tang stamp.
Did some research, found some were made by Robeson . This one has the look of a late 30's-early 40's piece. J.O'.

The tang stamp Dimitri posted on the original post is the real deal, J.O'. Someone else came along and did some reproductions at some point. There's another Pine Knot thread around here somewhere.

Didn't think this one is a Belknap, too cheap looking. Smacks of a Colonial's construction. The tang stamp has only the PINE KNOT and the bird,, nothing below unless it's obliterated. That rolled over liner edge holds the scales on, but they are tight. Probably a 69 cent card knife from the 50's. Interesting threads. J.O'.

Pine Knot was a budget brand of Belknap.From my understanding, most had comp handles.
