Can't find this maker listed in any of the books I have. Can anyone help? It's a 3-1/2" Tuxedo Pen Knife. Both blades are marked CM Fire Knife Co. No country or city of origin. Very high quality with fit and finish that will rival any i've ever seen. Handles are genuine tortoise shell. Blades have a great secondary grind and long pulls extend through the

tang.

Might it say "Empire Knife Co"?

Well i'll be danged! Do I feel like an idiot?!

I looked at those stamps a dozen times and never saw that in them, but sure as heck...now that you say it, I can see that is exactly what they are. Funny thing is that both stamps look exactly alike. Looks like the stamp they were using was getting a little light on the middle line of the "E" and the loop on the "P". Well, thank you very much.

Less of a mystery then I thought it was going to be.

Empire Knife Co. Winstead Conn. 1856-1930. Being tortoise handles, I would guess the earlier part of that timeframe?

Thanks Paul! I've only had one other tortoise shell handled knife and it wouldn't have held a candle to this one. It was a tiny tuxedo pen with small pieces of tortoise, channel inlayed into nickel silver handles. To top it off, there were a couple of small pieces missing. It along with 6 or 8 other knives were ripped off out of the front seat of my truck while I was at work one day.

It was no great loss, but 2 or 3 of the others are still sorely missed to this day.

The Faglet that RobesonsRMe posted the other day beats them all.
I bought a 99 center off ebay that was listed as a "Go Soled" brand. Turned out to be an Ideal.
