All About Pocket Knives

I was digging through some old cigar boxes of knives I have stored away.
I found this Remington MOP lobster pattern. The model # on the rear tang is a bit worn, but upon examination under a 45x microscope it is clearly R7094. The length closed is 2-5/8”, (actually 2-11/16” to be more precise).

It appears to have been an ad knife. The ink is mostly gone from the mark side handle, but some of the writing can be seen. It appears there was an oval 1-11/16” in length and a year date at each end, What ever was between the dates is gone. The first date is fairly easy to read; on the left side of the oval is ‘1826’ on the other end it appears to say ‘1929’.

Aside from the ink worn off the handle, perhaps from riding in a knife purse in a pocket, there does not appear to be any damage to the knife. I think it has been used, but it does not appear to have been sharpened.

I don’t collect Remingtons, so I am contemplating selling or trading it off. The value per Stewart & Richie; Remington Knives Past & Present; 2005; is listed as $150.
Is $150 a realistic asking price for this knife in this condition? I would call it near mint.
If not $150, what should it be?

Thanks for the help guys I sure appreciate it. This knife is outside my area of expertise. I don’t want to over charge, nor do I want to sell it for less than I could reasonably expect to get for it.

Small lobsters aren't the most valuable pattern in any brand and Remington isn't any exception. The main problem with this knife is the lack of an etch.

Stewart and Ritchie list values for mint examples and as is usual with price guides they are optimistic.

I looked up Remington pearl's in the completed listings on eBay and found only one similar example it sold for $40. There was some damage to the pearl at one end of the knife that would have affected the value downward.

I'm not sure what the wording on the handle would do to the value. Someone might have a specific collecting area if that wording could be deciphered. For other collectors a non standard feature on a knife would be a negative.

Whatever's it worth, you seem to be having pretty good luck rummaging around in old cigar boxes.

I used a black dry erase marker on a pearl handle etched like yours. It colors in the etching and you can wipe the excess off with a soft cloth.

Thanks for the great tip! I tried the black Dry Erase and while the ink would wipe off and not stay in the shallow impression, I could read the last date better with the ink still on the handle. The first date is 1826 as I thought, but the last date is 1926 and not 1929 as I first believed. From that I would assume the knife was made around 1925-1926, or sometime near that.
