If mint and if authentic, book price is $4250, add about $1,000 if red stag.
I noticed that this seller now has an ad in Knife World. Not a classified ad but a regular ad.

I don't know Case from Casiopeia. The knife may very well be right as rain. I hope it is. Somebody would acquire a great knife.

This seller does sell ligitimate knives, on occasion, but he's more widely known and distrusted as a seller of reworks.

I, personally, would not spend big bucks on one of his auctions, even though he usually offers a generous return policy.

I would have to see that knife or any knife of that price in person before buying it. I dont know to much about the congress pattern but I thought case used mostly nickel siver pins in the handles in that time period.

Well, nice to know that a mint, true , honest to God, authentic one is worth that much money ... thanks Paladin.

I'm not saying the knife is legitimate or it is a fake ...... I was just commenting on the price it has risen to at this time.

And yes, the seller is know to have sold many cobbled knives .... I wouldn't bid on any of his stuff either without 1st having it in hand.

Maybe Steve can jump in here shortly and comment on the authenticity ?

i have the very same knife, near mint. only mine is 65-69..one year difference. but big bucks apart.
i also have one red bone 40-65, and one redbone 65-69, all near mint.

Would love to see pics of those .... bet they are more than fabulous !!!

I believe that the knife is authentic , but it has been cleaned , therefore it has reached very near its value . I also don't like the way that the backspring sits below the frame when in the closed position in the 1st pic . Without the long pull this knife would only bring around $1000 . (IMHO)

dean, i only wish i could do picks. still no camera. the people here are probably starting to doubt what i do have......some day i will get with the program. but for now, it's all in the minds eye.

If you have a cell phone that has a camera you can take pics ..... actually my cell phone takes pretty good pics; here is one example from a cheap cell phone camera :

There's something with the tang stamp in that up-close photo. It appears to be an over-strike, although I suppose it could be a ligitimate factory error double-strike.

Whatever it is, the tang has been stamped twice.

I agree with Rob that it's been cleaned. There are pits on the tangs and none on the blades.
