Hello, just joined last night - Kabar pocket knife.

I've been reading and learning from your great knife forum for the past year, decided to join last night. I am not really a collector, but I am an accumulator of knives (pocket and fixed blade) and have quite a few. I am known in my family for giving a pocket knife for HS and college grad gifts, usually a Case, but also American made Bucks. I bought this USA made Kabar pocket knife for my own use sometime in the mid-1990's from the MCX at Camp Lejeune NC and carried it for daily and National Guard use until about five years ago. I haven't seen them offered in several years (tried to buy a dupe, but got a Case coke bottle instead), wondered about the quality (it was fairly cheap, maybe $15 - $18 when I bought it) and who may offer them now.
The knife today:
Back in 2003 during OIF, cooking lunch - it is in my watch hand, I'm the guy with the tags visible on around my neck, this is the only picture I have with me using this knife.

the kabar knife has its own forum if you scroll down the list of forums, i am not too versed in kabar history, i know basic stuff, cutco acquired kabar in 1995 and still owns that brand. but i am sure that is the place you will find someone who knows that particular knifes history. someone will come along here and get that info to you

aboard Old Hunter. Glad to have you join us.
I'm no Kabar expert but I do know that stockman is an excellent, no frills, quality USA made knife suitable for years of EDC use.
Have you checked ebay to see if you can locate another one? You can get just about ANYTHING on ebay.
Stop into the Chat Room and pay us a visit some evening.

Guys, thank you for the warm welcome and the information concerning my pocket knife. On one point let me set the record straight - I am not a Marine and have never been a Marine - I am a Soldier, retired from 32+ years in the ARNG (that is an Army DCU uniform I am wearing in the picture). Sorry for creating any confusion; I bought the knife at the MCX (I buy lots of stuff at the MCX, it is close to my home, they have good stuff at good prices). Regards, Old Hunter

T.J. I don't think he's a Jarhead. Hard to see but looks more like a Doggy Colonel to me. (Second guess is a Ft. Sill raider - Arty). I'm going to stick my neck out here and hang with a Doggy Colonel.

In spite of your questionable pedegree sir, you are welcome here any time, all the time. There are several Jarheads, a couple of Doggys and at least one Squid so be prepared for incoming at any time.

Bull, at least two known Squids. (You're not a Squid, you're a Seabee. More a Marine than a Squid.) Knife7knut posted recently that he was in the Navy.
Alright Colonel. This is not normal, but you started it. Normally 95% of the chatter is about knives.

He does but they're making them younger these days. Take a look at this SgtMaj we met while on tour of Cherry Point MCAB in '07. He doesn't look like the Sergeants Major I remember.

Glenn - My niece is in the Air Force. Right now, she's stationed at Tyndall AFB outside Panama City, FL. She met and married an M.P. there (A.P.?) who just got back from a tour in Iraq. She's non-deployable because of her MOS (made her mother happy).
