All About Pocket Knives

This question came up awhile ago regarding the dateline of certain Imperial markings. Again while searching for some thing else this popped up I thought I better post it before it slipped back into the land of the lost. It is from Knife world Sept 2004. PG 29 Which apparently was a reprint from Sept 2003. LT PS we cannot always find the info when it is wanted but it is usually here some where.

Well I still havent found what I was looking for but here is the time line ( I do not think it is complete but close and only up until the 90tys.) for Schrade. Now everyone can get all there ducks ( er knives in a row ) again that invaluable wonderful source Knife world. . June 2004. Thats it for today looking through years of these My eyeballs are closing it is nap time. Time to dream of Tahiti. These charts are my new years present to everyone. It should be fun for everyone to be able to correctly date there knives. a little more accurately. LT

I had never seen the Imperial markings before. Now I have to go through all my knives & date them! That should keep me busy for a month or so!

thanks LT, I had the scrade timeline, but the imperial is one I needed, now I can identify some of those tangs I wasn't so sure about .

I have a single Imperial marked:

Imperial (with the crown over it)
England

Any idea of its date, was it likely that this was made in England, or was it perhaps an Irish made knife? I could post a pic if anyone would like.

I also have an Imperial Pen knife with "Imperial England" stamped w a crown over Imperial. This is a pearl pen knife I picked up on ebay. Anyone have any info?

Hello I have not answered this hoping someone would have more information than myself. The best I can do is to mention that the name imperial and similar stamps were used in not only England but Germany and Japan as well. I do not know much about them but they often come up as a confusion when discussing the more well known American versions. Sorry I am not into these but if I run across any thing I will try to add more. If I had to guess I would say timewise it was English, German, and the last Japan. LT

To cut a long and sad story short, there was a brief time (1977-1983) when the conglomerate of Rodgers-Wostenholm-Richards was owned by Imperial of USA. They made knives in Sheffield at that time. The knife is most likely from that period. There were Schrade I*XL Wostenholm knives from that time aswell. s-k
