All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone tell me something about this knife? The tang stamp on the master blade (as well as I can make out) reads "Cutlery Co." over "Naugatuck" and the tang stamp on the secondary blade reads "Conn" over "Cutlery Co." over "Naugatuck". I'd like to find out all I can about this knife, how old it is, estimated value, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So this knife was made before 1883? Excellent! Do you have any idea what the value might be? I paid $50.00 for it on a hunch that it was very old and the fact that it was American made. It's in very good condition, blades have good snap and no wobble, the handle scales are not cracked or chipped but the blades both show some pitting. Both blades also look to be full or nearly so.

Pretty good deal I'd say.

I don't have a clue what it would be worth but somebody may come along who could give you an idea - it would help to try to get several clear pictures. You could try looking on ebay for completed sales but my guess is the brand is rare enough that there may be few if any comparable knives that have been sold. I'd say your best hope is that someone reads this post who has a good knowledge of the era and the company and wants to take a stab at it. That said, I probably would have given $50 for it too if it had come my way.

That's good to know, I'm not the only one who would pay fifty bucks for it. I was hoping for more information when I posted it and I haven't been disappointed. I know quite a bit more now than when I started. You guys are great! I suspect that we will eventually hear from someone who knows even more.

I'd hang on to that lil darlin too.

19th Century knives in any kind of decent shape are few and far between these days.

I like AZ a lot more than I like WV. Both of 'em have some pretty country, but the wide open spaces call to me.

I've always liked the high desert and mountains. Northern AZ is my kind of place. WV isn't a bad substitute, for this side of the country. Lots of mountains, they say if you flatten out WV it'd be bigger than Texas! No matter where you go, it's uphill both ways.

Great old knife. A keeper for shure.

That is a great knife, and a rare find.
It is hard to put a value on something that is seldom or never seen sold.

Here is an old thread that was interesting with information from nifbuf(David Clark), then it moves on to Naugatuk and Union factory picture, and a map showing Conn Cut Co just down the road.
