I don't know a lot about this knife and I'm hoping someone can give me an approximate manufacture date. The knife has steel bolsters and liners and is etched Navy Knife on the blade. I believe the knife to be legit and not a reproduction based on the quality, the steel bolsters and liners, and the old stag. From what I have gotten off of the internet this stamp was used as early as 1837 but I don't know how long it was used.
I would appreciate ant info you guys might have.
Thanks

Very nice knife. ::tu:: In 1836 Russell moved their factory to larger buildings on the Green River in Deerfield, MA, but that particular stamp on your knife was used from 1884 to 1941.

Thanks for the information. Was hoping to get a more narrow time window but maybe someone will know what years this pattern was made.

I checked in Silvey's book, POCKET KNIVES of the UNITED STATES MILITARY. He does not give any more info than we already have.

I would be at a big disadvantage in a trade as I honestly don't have a good feel for what the knife might be worth. Can't find it in any of the books I have and I haven't seen one sell on Ebay. I might put it on Ebay at some poing in time and see what happens.

That's a splendid knife. I'll give you five bucks and a box of Cracker Jacks for it.

Was at the Duvall Estate Auction in Kentucky back in June. A stag Navy Russell sold for $450 that was very similar to this one in condition.
Great old solid knives.
