All About Pocket Knives

I recently picked up a Case Buffalo and started thinking about the wood handled knives I have. Decided to pick up the camera and take a few shots, figured others probably have some wood handled beauties as well.

The first 8 (top to bottom) are Case elephant toe, sharks tooth, buffalo, mako, sidewinder, changer (w/the saw blade attached), pro-lock I and a USA hunter. The next 4 are New York Knife Co. coke bottle, wood scribe, and 2 jacks. Then a Cattaraugus swell centered jack, a Sears George Washington lock-back, a Robeson jack, a Kershaw 12 gauge shot shell and a R. Murphy pattern knife.

These two old pruners have rosewood scales... very traditional on Sheffiled-made knives and one of my favourite woods for scales.

When I first read the title....I thought, I'll show 'em who's got wood. I do, I've split 2 cords this summer......

then I realized this was about wood handled knives.....I got this Browning burl wood:

Thanks Falah, I've had a few of the 1982 Boker 'the Whittler'
and seen a few more float by in the 'Bay.
Originally they have a small Boker tree inlay on the handle.
Very fragile, easy to damage tinsy limbs and often the tree
is already gone leaving a small depression in the wood.
Boker applied a glossier finish, more like some kind of coating.
I sanded the wood just enough to remove the inlay depression
which also removed the glazed surface.
Light application of linseed oil brought up the grain then week
or so later a coat of renwax to protect.
I like the revamped version more than the 1982 as issued look.
Too bad some of the black came off the blade etch scrolling, huh?

You fellas sure been posting some beautiful timber.
3F, been too hot to chop wood down here.
Instead I been buying up all the bats and yardsticks
I can find at the yardsales.

Speaking of wood, how's about BRK&T's red spalted
maple burl and red flame maple.

Well, there's my little Buck 055 I carry around and a couple of old hawkbills but I can't think of anything else offhand other than this Effingham Blackjack Chestnut Chukker.

Oh yeah, and this Marbles Woodcraft Birdseye Maple. Almost forgot that one.

And then there's this Italian automatic in olive wood.

A little more searching turned up this Laguole Rossignol.

Yep, I think that's all of 'em.

That earlier 'Canada' fixed blade reminded
me to retrieve this Grohmann, it's from the
NAHC Hunting Heritage Collection.

Hey zed, did that fixed blade come with the sheath it's in? Looks kinda like a holster or a survival/hunting rig. Is that a firesteel on the side or a turkey caller? Pretty cool!

unk, that is a set to be proud of, I would never grow tired of looking at those beauties.

What's that age of that ol' Brown Mule, wosey? I wish I had more Kissing Cranes.

Red, I suspect the KC mule is recent
production since it is from Italy instead of Germany.
Roger Doss a cCc member sent it to me late last year
shortly before he passed away, r.i.p.

Hi mate, this was my first attempt at making a sheath, and yes its a fire steel on the side,

it all turned out ok i want to make a similar set up for another fire steel ans opinel #8 my mate made the fire steel

better pic of the steel, ive since this pic grinded the back of the blade to use with the steel .
