All About Pocket Knives

My father has a Case black diamond knife that was given to him by his father.. we where trying to locate some information regarding this knife.

It is in a cardboard display box with a picture of a miner carrying a lantern and the words " black diamond" printed on the cover..

the knife is a large single bladed, non-locking, foldable. It is black and silver with engravings on the blade which include a miner's pick, a stone, and the words "Black Diamond"..

The blade numbers are 2165 and the knife also seems to have a production number of 0170 ( 0170 out of X amount of knives made??)

Any info some one might have , such as production dates, worth , ect.. would be greatly appreciated ..

Sounds like an interresting knife. I don't know anything about coal miner memorabilia, but as far as the knife goes... I can tell you that it is what most would call a single blade folding hunter. According to the pattern number it has black composition handles. The value will depend greatly on the age of the knife. check this link for dating the knife...

Here are the pics requested.. I am sorry about the quality but all I have is a cheap concord 2MP camera..

I believe I have gotten lost in the shuffle..

It may just be that no one has found information about your knife.

I did just find a 5 1/2" 2165 Folding Hunter listed in Houston Price's Guide. It is listed as being made in 1984....Black Composition handles....with a blade etch....approximate value of $75.
It does not however, mention the Black Diamond or the coal miner in any specific way. So that is the best I've found.

All I know about the knife is that it was bought in the early 80's for about $40.00..

Not only did you get an answer (it was the 1984 knife listed)... not only was the answer from Shirley Boser...but she actually applied the etch to that knife...

I also have this Black Diamond limited edition ss. Mine is 5 1/4 closed with a 4" blade 1098 out of???

There were Black Diamond coal, silver, and gold mines in Washington, California, and Colorado. Some of their sites are now tourist attractions. Wonder if that knife relates to them? Nice knife! J.O'
