Thanks guys for the nice comments. I think some of the old German knives were as well made as any, particularly the Bruckmans and Hen and Roosters. Some of them have some blade staining probably from moisture. I allowed them to be taken and stored for a short while after a fire in our house. I know, Dumb move! I think being all together in a hot humid storage vault probably caused the out-gassing of some of my celluloids. Oh well, lesson learned and thanks to the knowledgeable people on this forum, I have learned how to take better care of my knives. Slim.

Are the Bruckmann blades Carbon steel or stainless?

Me too David. I wonder how many pieces of pearl shattered trying to get all those grooves cut into that? Amazing craftsmanship.
