Thanks Charlie, I use Chicago screws (2) to attach the belt buckle.

Fine looking belts. I think that's just what I'm looking for. How do cowhide and horsehide compare for everyday wear, shape retention and stretching over time? My current belt (width = 1 3/8") has put in 15+ years of great service and is ready to retire. Can you come within a close proximity of replicating the color on this old friend and pants holder upper. (I don't expect it to be exact. Just horseshoes and hand grenades close will work.) I saw this one on your website and it looks like it will probably work, color and all. I'll PM for purchase details when I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Man....if that belt could talk, I bet it could tell some hellacious stories.
It looks more like light brown to me, whereas the belt I made below it is actually tan. It could be that the bright Cubs logo in the background is influencing the eye and robbing the belt of red...but I digress....
It's a fact that horsehide is denser than cow...and some will tell you that horse is better to make anything with than cow....I don't totally agree. It's a matter of splitting hairs, IMO.....
I like working with horsehide, and I'm happy to do so when it is requested of me, more and more these days. I especially like the "character" spots and marks that you'll find in it...but you will not get short-changed with a cowhide belt that I would make for you.
The double row of stitching really adds to the stiffness of the belt and to the anti-stretch factor as well.
I really like that buckle on your salty friend there...I hope you will consider using it with the replacement.
Note: conceal carry guys like belts that are about 1/4" thick, but I can also make them about 3/16" thick for those who are just wanting everyday wear, tougher than nails pants holder uppers. Still plenty thick, and will outlive us all.....

I think you're right. I think it was light brown when it was new and actually I prefer light brown.

That buckle definitely goes on the new belt. It's way too salty to retire.

I think 3/16" thick is perfect. Please PM a shipped price along with payment preferences, for a 44" with dyed thread (One like the last picture in your opening post will do just fine). Please include an address I can send this buckle to. I like the idea of horsehide but for all practical purposes, I think cowhide will outlast my sorry old hide.

Ordered a belt from Rick and it came in the mail today. Very, very nice. I'm totally pleased with the belt and Rick's customer service. The next time I'm in need of a belt the first person I'll call will be RG Leathers (if he's still alive ).
